One for Sorrow, Two for Joy: The Magpie Corset

The first confirmed bird capable of passing a mirror recognition test, the magpie possesses a remarkable capacity for demonstrating self-awareness.  From informing age-old lore to capturing the attention of neuroscience studies, these curious corvids have long fascinated humanity.  The magpie represents a fascinating facet of the concept of self-awareness, particularly when many of we humans fail to recognize our own selves when we gaze into the looking glass.

For me, they conjure ideas of something both brutish and profoundly graceful. A scavenger in iridescent robes, perhaps. A most captivating juxtaposition of dark and airy.  For this commonplace source of genuine inspiration and guidance, I continue to salute my magpie acquaintances.
